All religions have been my hobby since I can remember.
          25Apr2010—01Aug2011
my wife Smantha & I made
          119   visits to
            26   different denominations of
              8    very different faith-group-categories:
                        4  Christian
                        4  Buddhist
                        4  Jewish
                        4  NewThought
                        4  Humanist
                        2  Islamic
                        3  Hindu
                        1  Sikh

The word “religion,” defines as: people binding-together for some purpose. Somehow the word morphed to mean only the pursuit of transcendental ultimate values. The pursuit of ethics/morality is necessary in order to have a truly civilized society, in which people police their own thoughts, words, & actions individually, rather than needing a police-force to enforce proper behavior.

To be a truly well-rounded individual, development of the “Being” aspect of self is as important as developing the other 5 aspects (Body, Brains, Breeding, Bounty, & Bonvivance). Unfortunately, humans tend to go to extremes, and as a particular re-focuser (reformer) dies, his followers in time pile-on top of his advancements, a pile of b.s.
Then another reformer has to come along to re-focus, and again the movement-forward has to go through 3 stages:
1) ignoring & ridicule,
2) opposition, persecution, martyrdom,
3) acceptance as self-evident
        (usually after death of founder/reformer).

Religions fall into 3 major types
(though there is a lot of overlap):
a) Those who believe they have been started by supernatural beings, God/god(s), angels, spirits, extra-terrestrials, extra-dimensionals, ascended-masters, spirit-guides,
        e.g., Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, Cargo-cults,
        Constantinianity=Christianity, Zoroastrianism,
        Raelian-Movement, Spiritism.
b) Those who worship &/or try to manipulate nature & natural forces,
e.g., Shinto, Wicca, Sorcery, Thelema, Satanism, Paganism, Alchemy,
Santeria, Voodoo, Obeah, Palo, Hoodoo-conjure, Rootwork, Folk-magic,
        New-Age, Taoism, NewThought, NoeticsScience.
c) Those who promote human potential & advancement,
        e.g., Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, Atheism,
        Ethical-Culture, Humanism, Humanitarianism
        Unitarian-Universalism, Confucianism,
        Free-Thought, Philosophy, Scientology.

"We are all atheists about most of the gods that societies have ever believed in.
Some of us just go one god further."
--Richard Dawkins, ethologist, geneticist

And then there is Vinnieosophy. It combines all of the above and strives to discard the 80% b.s. which brings misery, and synthesize the 20% reality which advances happiness. Vinnieosophy teaches that the purpose of life is to learn to be, & be happy.
It promotes  ever-ascending  up-the-bridge  of
eternal-progression towards more & more courage, intelligence, & happiness. Vinnieosophy stipulates that, though there is a need for dogma (code of personal values), dogma MUST be quickly changeable as new discoveries are made.
Holding-on blindly to the 80% b.s. of the “old-ways” impedes galactic progress.
“Who would let a first-century dentist fill our children’s         teeth? But we’re letting first-century theologians fill our         children’s heads every day.”
        --Michael Dowd
(www.TheGreatStory.org)

As soon as something is discovered as untrue, unworkable, non-happiness-producing, it MUST be dropped, discarded, deleted from dogma quickly!

I have been told by countless people that I ought to start Quantum-Vinnieosophy-Evolvers->QVE as an organized religion for the future, because it makes the most sense
However, I am not looking forward to the 1st 2
of the 3 stages I’d have to go through:
1) ignoring & ridicule,
2) opposition, persecution, martyrdom.
I do not have a “martyr-complex.”
I do not crave to have my future disciples crucify me before they deify me.

So instead,
I look around for what comes the
closest to Vinnieosophy
(what I know to be real 20% happiness-producing), and I associate with those.
Of all the highlighted above,
SGI-Buddhism is the best organized
and most motivating
international ethic-accountability-society
w/o idol-worship, w/o paid clergy,
and w/o demanding lots of money (www.SGI.org).

"Buddhism is the religion that is closest to the Truth."
—Intelligent Design; Message from the Designers, by Rael 360:5
(www.Rael.org)

Also, Buddhism has historically proven itself to be the least violent major international religion, promoting non-violence, tolerance, & acceptance.
It is more a technique for eliminating suffering and developing happiness. It doesn’t require one to believe in god(s) nor to disbelieve in God.

And why do I promote joining an organization instead of just practicing religion on one’s own …
        “If we really care,
individually each of us can make a difference,
        but collectively,
        we can change the world.”
--character Huey Walker in 1990 movie Flashback
There is power in numbers. How many people have built a house from start to finish by themselves alone? On the other hand, how many buildings have been built by teams of tradesmen working in cooperation?

Buddhism means awakening, enlightenment, born-again-ness. Jesus spent a decade in central Asia studying & teaching Buddhism before he returned to Judea to teach it there. Humans being humans, piles of b.s. were piled-up even upon Buddhism,
so that every once-in-a-while some reformer had to
re-focus people upon the simple techniques now popularized via the book and video called

Some Buddhist re-focusers:
T'ien-T'ai Chih-che        (538-597 CE)

Saicho = Dengyo             (767-822 CE)
Japanese monk (posthumous title Dengyo Daishi)
founder in Japan of Tendai school

Nichiren DaiShonin        (1222-1282) http://nichiren-shu.org/NONA/pages/lineage.html

Tsunesaburo Makiguchi (1871-1944) www.TMakiguchi.org     (1930-1944)

Josei Toda                    (1900-1958)  www.JoseiToda.org       (1946–1958)

Daisaku Ikeda               (1928-       ) www.DaisakuIkeda.org (1960–present)

So until I find something better,
for the sake of humanitarian happiness, I promote:
SGI = Nichiren-Buddhism (www.SGI.org),
INS = Institute of Noetic Sciences (www.Noetic.org),
IRM = International Raelian Movement (www.Rael.org).
